IN TUESDAY NIGHT DOUBLEHEADER
The boys and girls basketball teams hosted a double-header Tuesday night with neighborhood rival Cox High School. In the early game, the girls used a 23-10 first half advantage to take home their 10th straight win of the season, 48-24. The boys did not disappoint in the back end of the double-header. Terrell Allen returned from injury to score 30 points and grab 19 rebounds in the Dolphins 79-54 victory.
In the girls’ game, freshman Alexis Smith turned in another gem of a performance. Smith led all scorers with 16 points, and she had six steals as well. Khajae Hester dropped in 13 points of her own while running the show from the point. Zeniya Trowell had 10 points; Amalia Riess added six points on two 3-pointers; and La’Bria Wilson finished the scoring with three points on one 3-pointer. The Dolphins are an impressive 10-0 on the season, and they look to continue their unblemished run when they host Granby on Thursday (7pm).
On the boys side of things, the Dolphins used a dominant second half to seal the victory. Cape Henry was leading by 10 at halftime (44-34), but it surged forward to a 35-20 second half run to grab the 25-point win. Allen was a force with a double-double, and junior Athlete of the Week Demetrius Pollard was exceptional as well. Pollard scored 22 points (three 3-pointers), grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists. George Radford turned in one of his most productive outings of the season as he caught fire from beyond the arc. Radford sunk five three pointers for a total of 15 points. The remainder of the offense came from Connor LaFramboise (five points), Devon Hall (three), Cecil Ward (two) and Michael Kroll (two). The win improves Cape Henry to 8-3 overall. The Dolphins host Atlantic Shores on Friday night (7pm).
